1. Who we are
LegaLio is currently a closed, invitation-only, community-run operation. It is not yet a company. "LegaLio", "we" and "us" mean the people who currently run the service. We intend to incorporate LegaLio later as a company limited by shares. When that happens, the company will take over these terms and the data, and we will notify every user (see section 15). Once the company is incorporated, its name, CIN and registered office will be published here. Contact: legalio.india@gmail.com.
2. The service
LegaLio is a practice-management app for Indian advocates and law firms. It lets you keep cases, hearings, clients, documents and orders, tasks, billing and finance records, chat and a help desk in one place. It fetches court cause lists and case status from public court portals, can email you alerts and digests, and offers a connector (MCP) so that your own AI app can read your firm's data with an API key you create.
LegaLio is in beta and keeps changing. Features can be added, changed or removed, and some screens may say "coming soon". Access is currently by invitation.
3. Accounts, passwords and API keys
- You must be at least 18 and be an advocate, or a person authorised by a law firm or chamber to use LegaLio for it.
- Give accurate details and keep them current.
- You are responsible for your password and your API keys, and for everything done with them. Do not share a login between people. Keep API keys private, give them the least access they need (read-only, chosen modules), and revoke any you no longer use.
- Tell us at once at legalio.india@gmail.com if you think someone else has your password or key.
- The person who creates a firm's account is its owner and is responsible for who else the firm lets in.
4. Your professional duties
Using LegaLio does not change your obligations as an advocate. Your duties of confidentiality and privilege to your clients (under the Advocates Act, 1961, the Bar Council of India Rules and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023) stay with you. You decide what to put into LegaLio and who in your firm may see it. You confirm that you have the right and authority to enter the data you add, and that you will tell your clients what the law requires about how their data is handled.
For your clients' and other people's personal data, your firm is the Data Fiduciary and LegaLio is its Data Processor under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. We process that data only on your instructions, to provide the service, as set out in the Privacy Policy. These terms are the agreement for that processing.
If you connect an AI app through the connector, you decide that and you are responsible for it. Data your AI app reads is handled under that provider's terms.
5. Court and cause-list data
Cause lists, case status, hearing dates and orders shown in LegaLio come from public court portals. They can be incomplete, late, wrong or missing. A portal can change, go down, or block automated access. A matter may be added to a list, adjourned, advanced or removed after LegaLio last looked.
Always verify dates, listings and orders on the court's official website, the notice board or with the registry before you rely on them. Alerts, reminders, digests and the calendar are aids to your own diary, not a replacement for it. LegaLio is not liable for a missed hearing, a missed deadline, a wrongly listed or unlisted matter, or anything that follows from relying on data that came from a court portal.
6. No legal advice
LegaLio is software. It does not give legal advice and does not act as your advocate or your clients' advocate. Anything it shows, including judgments, summaries, deadlines and templates, or anything your AI app produces from your data, must be checked by you before you use it.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- break the law, or use LegaLio to harass, defraud or harm anyone;
- try to see another firm's data, bypass the separation between firms, or probe the service for weaknesses without our written permission;
- copy, resell or reverse-engineer the service, or scrape it, except through the connector and API keys we provide;
- upload malware or send so much traffic that the service is disrupted;
- use LegaLio to misuse the public court portals it connects to, or to get around any limit they set;
- let anyone under 18 use your account.
8. Your content
Your data stays yours. You give us permission to store, process and display it, and to email it to the addresses you set, only as needed to run the service for you. We claim no ownership of it.
9. Fees
LegaLio is free to use during the closed phase. If we introduce charges we will tell you well in advance and will not charge you without your agreement.
10. Availability and no warranty
We work to keep LegaLio running and take regular backups, but the service is provided "as is" and "as available", without promises that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or always up to date. There may be downtime for maintenance or because of things outside our control, such as hosting, internet, email or court-portal problems. Keep your own copies of anything critical.
11. Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, LegaLio and the people who run it are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, business, goodwill or data, or for the outcome of any case or hearing, including a missed or mistaken listing (section 5). Our total liability to you for any claim connected with the service is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or Rs. 10,000, whichever is higher.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, such as for fraud or wilful misconduct. You agree to compensate us for losses from claims by others that arise from your unlawful use of LegaLio or from content you had no right to add.
12. Suspension, termination and your data
- You can stop using LegaLio and ask us to close your account at any time by emailing legalio.india@gmail.com.
- We may suspend or close an account for a breach of these terms, for security reasons, or if the law requires. Where possible we will tell you first, and give you time to take your data.
- Your data on exit. On request we will give you an export of your firm's data (records as spreadsheets or PDFs, and your uploaded files) within 30 days. A one-click export in the app is planned but not available yet. After that your data is erased as described in the Privacy Policy.
13. Third-party services
LegaLio depends on others: hosting, email delivery, public court portals, and any AI app you connect. Their own terms apply to what they do, and we are not responsible for their services or outages.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For changes that matter we will email your registered address and show a notice in the app at least 30 days before they take effect. If you do not agree, you can close your account before then. If you keep using LegaLio after the change takes effect, you accept the new terms. The version shown at the top is the one recorded when you sign up.
15. Move to a company
When LegaLio is incorporated as a company limited by shares, we may transfer these terms, the service and your data to that company. We will notify you before or when this happens. The company will be bound by these terms and the Privacy Policy as they stand, and the people who ran LegaLio before incorporation will pass on all rights and responsibilities to it.
16. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Please first write to us at legalio.india@gmail.com so we can try to settle any problem informally. If that does not work, the courts at Mumbai will have jurisdiction. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
